To enter the United States, you may need a Known Traveler Number (KTN) or a Redress Number. These numbers, used by U.S. authorities, help speed up security checks and prevent mistaken identity issues with watch lists.
- Redress Number: a 7-digit identifier issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s DHS TRIP program. It is used when you have been repeatedly subjected to excessive screenings or misidentifications while traveling.
- Known Traveler Number (KTN): this number is assigned to individuals enrolled in trusted traveler programs (for example, TSA PreCheck). Adding your KTN to your booking may allow you to use expedited security lanes.
When will I be asked for these numbers?
These numbers will be requested during your online check-in, in the passenger information section. You must enable the option “I have a Redress Number or a KTN,” and fields will appear where you can enter either of the two numbers:
- Redress Number: if you are part of the DHS TRIP program.
- Known Traveler Number (KTN): if you belong to a trusted traveler program.
If you don’t have either of these numbers, you can continue your online check-in as usual.
