Yes, you can travel with your sports equipment, as long as it meets the packaging and transportation requirements. Plan ahead and add your sports equipment when buying your ticket on avianca.com. If you already have a booking, add it through Manage your booking, our Contact center, up to 48 hours before your fligh, or at the airport counter on the day of travel.
In any of our fares, if carry-on baggage is included or you purchased it separately, you may replace your carry-on baggage with your sports equipment, as long as it meets the following requirements:
- Maximum weight: 10 kg (22 lb)
- Maximum dimensions: 115 cm (45 in) linear dimensions (height + length + width)
- It must not contain sharp, blunt, or any other items that may pose a security risk.
If you're traveling on a Basic fare, you'll need to purchase an additional carry-on bag to transport your sports equipment. Please note that sports equipment containing sharp objects, blunt objects, or any item that may pose a safety risk cannot be transported in the cabin.
In any of our fares, if checked baggage is included or you purchased it separately, you may replace any of your checked baggage pieces with sports equipment at no additional charge, as long as it meets the checked baggage limits:
- Economy Class: up to 23 kg (50 lb)
- Business Class: up to 32 kg (70 lb)
- Maximum dimensions: 158 linear cm (height + length + width)
If you are flying with golf equipment, it may replace any checked baggage piece at no additional charge as long as it does not exceed 300 linear cm.
If your sports equipment exceeds these limits, you must purchase it as sports equipment and pay the applicable fee. If it exceeds these weight limits, overweight fees will apply. It may also measure up to 300 linear cm (height + length + width), except surfboards, kitesurf boards, windsurf boards, and hang gliders, which may measure up to 320 cm in length, regardless of width and height.
Information by sports equipment type
- Archery equipment: You may travel with bows, arrows, and maintenance accessories packed in a single container that does not exceed 300 linear cm (height + length + width).

Bicycle:You may travel with a single-seat bicycle. To transport it, keep the following in mind:
- It must be packed in a sturdy cardboard box or in a case designed specifically for bicycles, not exceeding 300 linear cm (height + length + width).
- The handlebar must be secured to one side and the pedals removed.
- Small items such as the chain, screws, and brakes must be properly packed. Electric or motorized bicycles are not accepted.
- Scuba diving equipment: You may travel with your diving equipment in a single kit that includes:one empty tank, one regulator, one mask, one snorkel, two fins, one wetsuit, one buoyancy vest, one weight belt, underwater lamps, and an unloaded harpoon properly packed.It must not exceed 300 linear cm (height + length + width).
- Hang glider:You may transport the sail, harness, and metal frame in a single bag up to 320 cm long.
- Ski equipment: You may bring one pair of skis with poles or one snowboard that does not exceed 300 linear cm (height + length + width), plus one bag with boots and shoes.

Golf / polo equipment: You may bring one pair of skis with poles or one snowboard that does not exceed 300 linear cm (height + length + width), plus one bag with boots and shoes.
- Golf: one case with up to 14 clubs, 12 balls, and one pair of shoes, properly packed and secured, not exceeding 300 linear cm (height + length + width).
- Polo: one mallet bag with up to 12 mallets, 2 balls, one pair of boots, one pair of knee pads, and one pair of gloves, properly packed and secured, not exceeding 300 linear cm (height + length + width).
- Fishing equipment: You may bring your fishing equipment in a single bag that includes: two rods, one reel, one net, one pair of boots, and one tackle box, not exceeding 300 linear cm (height + length + width). For domestic flights in Colombia, fishing equipment may not travel in the cabin.
- Surf equipment: You may bring one bag with up to three surfboards. The bag must be up to 320 cm long, regardless of width and height.
- Kitesurf equipment: You may bring one board up to 320 cm long, one kite, one control bar, and one harness, all in a single package.
- Windsurf equipment: You may bring one board up to 320 cm long, together with one mast, one sail, and one boom, all in a single package.

- Non-conventional baggage, including sports equipment, is subject to the signing of the limited liability waiver issued by avianca, which you will find on the back of your baggage tag.
- Archery and fishing equipment can only be purchased at Airports, Authorized sales points, Agencies, and the Contact Center.
- Please note that sports items not included in the checked baggage list can be purchased exclusively at Airports and the Contact Center.
- On flights operated by aircraft in the A320 fleet, a maximum of 15 bicycles may be transportedper aircraft.
- Bicycles are not accepted on flights operated by Clic. This restriction also applies to connecting itineraries: if any segment of your trip is operated by Clic, it will not be possible to transport your bicycle on any part of the itinerary.
