Special baggage

Can I bring my sports equipment?

Yes, you can bring your sports equipment with you as long as it meets the packing and transportation requirements. You can add your sports equipment when purchasing your ticket at avianca.com. If you already have a booking, include it through Manage your booking or by calling our Contact center, up to 48 hours before your flight's departure.

You can also purchase it at the airport counter. Let us know which sports equipment you would like to register and make the payment. Keep in mind that purchasing your baggage on avianca.com is more affordable than doing so at the airport. Check below how much it costs to bring your sports equipment in the cabin or hold.

In the cabin

If you are traveling on a Light, Classic, Flex, Business Classic, or Business Flex fare, you can replace the carry-on bag included in your fare with sports equipment. To be accepted in the cabin, it must meet the following requirements:

  • Maximum weight: 10 kg (22 lb)
  • Maximum dimensions: 115 cm (45 in) linear dimensions (height + length + width)

If you're traveling on a Basic fare, you'll need to purchase an additional carry-on bag to transport your sports equipment. Please note that sports equipment containing sharp objects, blunt objects, or any item that may pose a safety risk cannot be transported in the cabin.

In the hold

If you are flying on a Classic, Flex, Business Classic or Business Flex fare, you can replace your first included checked bag with sports equipment at no additional charge, provided it meets the following requirements:

  • Economy Class: up to 23 kg (50 lb)
  • Business Class: up to 32 kg (70 lb)
  • Maximum dimensions: 158 cm (62 in) linear dimensions (height + length + width)

If these limits are exceeded, applicable overweight and oversized baggage fees will apply.

If you're traveling with golf equipment, it may replace your first checked bag at no additional charge, provided it does not exceed 230 cm (90 in) in linear dimensions.
