When you travel in Business Class and your itinerary includes connections, each segment of your journey may be operated by different aircraft types. This is what we call a mixed cabin. This means that even though your reservation is in Business Class, the onboard experience may vary between flights, depending on the aircraft operating each segment.
For example, some flights are operated by single-aisle aircraft (such as the Airbus A319 or A320), while others are operated by wide-body aircraft (such as the Boeing 787).
Because of this, certain aspects of your experience may vary, including: Seat type, onboard meal service, in-flight entertainment. Below you can find what to expect in each case.

Please note:
- Some domestic flights within Colombia are operated by ATR72-600 aircraft, where only Economy seats are available and onboard meal service and entertainment are not available.
- The maximum seat recline in Business Class may vary depending on the aircraft type.
- Benefits such as avianca VIP Lounges, Lifemiles accrual, priority services, and increased baggage allowance remain available throughout your journey.
Examples of mixed cabin itineraries
Villavicencio to Santiago de Chile with a connection in Bogotá (traveling in Business Class)
This itinerary includes two flight segments, one of which is operated by avianca Express.
- Villavicencio - Bogotá: This is a domestic flight operated by avianca Express on an ATR72-600 turboprop aircraft. Only Economy seats are available and onboard sales service is not available.
- Bogotá - Santiago de Chile: This flight may be operated by either an A320 (single-aisle aircraft) or a B787 (wide-body aircraft), which will determine the type of seat assigned. If operated by an A320, you will travel in a Premium seat with avianca on air entertainment available. If operated by a B787, you will travel in a Business Class seat with built-in entertainment screens. In both cases, our onboard menu service will be included.
La Paz to Barcelona with a connection in Bogotá (traveling in Business Class)
This booking includes two flight segments:
- La Paz - Bogotá: This flight is operated by a single-aisle aircraft (A320 or A319). You will travel in a Premium seat, with meals and beverages included, and avianca on air entertainment available.
- Bogotá - Barcelona: This flight is operated by a B787 wide-body aircraft. You will travel in a Business Class flatbed seat with built-in entertainment screens and enjoy our full onboard menu service.
