Checked baggage

What is the purpose of baggage tags?

Baggage tags are the receipt you receive when you check in your baggage. They are essential as they are the identification of each of your bags. Make sure you always have them with you even after you have arrived at your final destination, as they are essential in case you have any later claims regarding your baggage.

General recommendations Stand by baggage
  • Make sure you keep the baggage tag with you at all times and that it matches the password that was given to you with your passport, which you will find at the bottom of the baggage tag consisting of 2 letters (airline code plus 6 numbers).

  • For your safety, we recommend that you always use identification that makes your baggage unique.

  • Always include a label with your personal details on the outside of your suitcase to make sure we recognize your baggage in case it gets lost or delayed.

Keep in mind
Transporting non-conventional baggage, including sports equipment, musical instruments, works of art and oversized or overweight baggage, is subject to the signature of the limited liability certificate issued by avianca, which you will find on the back of the baggage tag. It clarifies that avianca is not responsible for the condition of your baggage when transported in the cargo hold.
